Challenge ko lang ang nagbabasa nito kung mahahanap niya ang loophole sa story: ang loophole na nadiscover ng group namin habang nirereport na sa harap ng buong class!
Three Little Words
It was the beautiful noon of August 11, 2005 at UP Diliman. Mina was seen walking at the academic oval from her PE class. She was going to meet her bestfriend, Jake, at the steps of the main library. As she was walking, drinking the remaining contents of her C2, her cellphone beeped, indicating she has received a message. She read the message and saw that it came from Darryl, one of her friends. It read:
hi! muzta? mit nman tau 2day o! mis u na e!:) hav a rose 4u! =D
But because she was meeting with Jake, she replied this:
hi din! sori…m olredi meeting jake e.:)
There were not so many people on the library steps when Mina got there. She sat on the topmost step as she waited for Jake. Then her phone, beeped again.
jake! jake! puro naman jake e!
She smiled as she read Darryl’s reply to her message. Darryl and Jake have been rivals since kindergarden when Jake threw away Darryl’s treasured pen. Darryl became so angry with Jake afterwards because that pen was his only memory of his late mother. Since then, they have been bitter rivals, and now, they’re taking their rivalry to the extreme as they are both courting Mina.
So there was Mina, waiting for Jake. Minutes passed, but there was no sign of Jake. Two hours later, Jake was still nowhere to be seen. Tired of waiting, Mina got up and went to her college to get her things from her locker then go home.
While walking, her phone beeped again. Thinking it was Jake, she hurriedly opened it, only to find out it was from an unknown person. It read:
kung ayaw mong mphamak c jake, sundin mo lahat ng gus2 ko…
Thinking it was a joke, she ignored the message. When she reached the locker room, noone was there. She proceeded to open her locker but was surprised to find what was inside. It was an envelope covered with mud and blood stains. She opened it and read the note that was inside.
If you want to see your friend, Jake, do what I want! Or else…
Mina trembled after reading it. Who could do this to Jake? she thought. She remembered Darryl, but dismissed the thought of him doing this. Just then, her phone beeped. It was from the same stranger.
sundin mo nlang lhat ng gus2 ko kung gus2 mo pang mkita c jake!
cno k b? replied Mina. bkit mo b 2 gngawa? ano b gus2 mo?
Her phone beeped again. kc nman e…, read the text. sgutin mo na ako at
kalimutan yang c jake.
Then it struck her. Nobody else was courting her, aside from Jake, but Darryl. She remembered the incident a while ago, when she refused meeting Darryl and how he reacted. Then she looked at the note. Below was a drawing of a rose. This reminded her how Darryl was fond of roses. The more she thought about it, the more she was certain Darryl was the suspect.
Her phone beeped again. akin ka lang, mina… akin lang…
Furious, and worried about Jake, she went looking for Darryl. She found him at the A.S. parking lot, carrying a bouquet of roses. She approached and condronted him. Darryl said he does not know she was talking about. He said he was also looking for herto give her the roses. Mina, disregarding what he said, demanded that he show him where Jake was.
"If you want, you can even look at my car’s trunk!" Darryl said with full confidence.
Their fight had already created a crowd around them, and as Darryl inserted the key to his trunk, more came to find out what was going on. What they saw was something that shocked them all, even Darryl. Jake was there, wounded and covered with mud.
"I hate you…"
Those words pierced Darryl’s heart. He ran away from the crowd, shielding his
face from the dagger looks of the people around him.
That night, Mina stayed with Jake, caring for him. She stayed at his house, and, together with his mom, cared forhis wounds. Late in the night, Mina’s phone beeped again. The message was from Darryl’s mom, and what it contained stunned all of them.
mina…c darryl ng-suicide…
They hurried to Darryl’s place. When they got there, Darryl was still being brought down form the ropes he had used to kill himself. Mina burst into tears when she learned from Darryl’s mom that Darryl did this because he was so upset after she accused him of kidnapping Jake. Meanwhile, Jake had a blank _expression on his face. When he was about to be questioned about the kidnapping, he asked to be excused because of his wounds. Before he left, Mina asked if she could borrow his cellphone so she could call her mom.
Mina was trembling with guilt and fear as she reached for Jake’s phone. Because of her shaking hands, she unintentionally reached the "Sent Items" folder. What she found there took the color out of her face.
